Located 15 km south of Nanoose Bay is the Harbour City of Nanaimo, also know as the Bathtub Capital of the World.

The population of the Nanaimo Regional District is almost 150,000, with about 78,000 residing in the City of Nanaimo. It is easy access to get on or off the Island from here, either from the Departure Bay or Duke Point Ferry Terminals or the Nanaimo Airport. Nanaimo is the home of Woodgrove Center, Vancouver Island’s largest shopping center. Nanaimo offers a wide variety of shopping from the quaint little specialty shops and boutiques to the Big Box Stores.

Nanaimo has it all and draws people from all over the Island. There is everything here that a mid-sized Canadian city can offer. There is also the added attraction of our coastal setting and the marine activities associated with a port city. A must do, is browsing around and stopping for a cappuccino in the Old City Quarter. From there on, a stroll along the scenic waterfront walkway with the fishing and pleasure boats, fresh seafood, specialty shops, authentic fish n’ chips, and the Maffeo Sutton Park.

Nanaimo is central to many fine Island Golf Courses and has also become a destination point for divers with sinking of the HMCS Saskatchewan to form an artificial reef. There are over 70km of mountain bike trails, which opens up the forested areas for hiking and walking.

For entertainment, there are numerous activities throughout the year. The Port Theatre provides a wide array of programs to suit all tastes. To find out what is playing in one of the local movie theatres, go to ForReel.com. There is always something interesting at the Nanaimo Art Gallery. A summertime highlight every July, is the Nanaimo Marine Festival and Bathtub Race.
The events and activities are endless throughout the year.
